#30DaysofPride Day 12
I am participating in a 30 Days of Pride Challenge and thought that these stories might be an inspiration to you whether you fall somewhere on the rainbow, or just want to live your life more authentically.
When it comes to a legacy that I am leaving it would be for my nieces, nephews, and other relatives to be able to live their truth no matter what that looks like.
A shocking number of my nieces are somewhere on the rainbow (lesbian, bi, or non-binary) and have the whole gambit throughout the next generation of cousins.
Each of them has had an easier time because of my coming out. I mean, I was the first. Even older cousins (and my brother) came out after I did.
I don’t think any of them got the “going to hell speech” that I did in my family. My sisters were open enough to be able to have affirming conversations so that their children never felt less than. And it isn’t just my family.
I have a friend who when he first met me was afraid that I was going to molest his son. Through our continued friendship he realized that would never be the case and when his daughter came out was able to have healthy conversations with her.
I don’t say this to pat myself on the back but just to highlight what it looks like just one generation later in my circle.
And I had it easy…
The pioneers before me had to deal with the legal right just to date, had a disease run rampant without any support, along with the threat of losing their jobs and violence.
My nieces only have to hear about that in textbooks and for that I am thankful.
You are loved!
Jeff
