#30DaysofPride Day 9

I am participating in a 30 Days of Pride Challenge and thought that these stories might be an inspiration to you whether you fall somewhere on the rainbow, or just want to live your life more authentically.

As I have gotten older, being gay has less to do with the rainbow flags and pride celebrations and more about just being comfortable in my skin.

You don’t just come out once.

There are a ton of little instances.

The most recent that I can remember was at the hotel bar in Orlando.

Gabbie and I went for a cocktail and ran into this really cool guy.

He asked us how long we have been together and BAM another person I had to come out to.

Right before that moment, you are thinking…

Oh gods, please don’t let them be assholes about this. All of your fears and insecurities, your not-enoughness, that time you were bullied in high school all come up in a wave.

What if he thinks that I am trying to hit on him?

What if he gets violent?

Now, I have been more likely to be asked if I know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior more than I have been hit, but I do have a friend who was put into the hospital because he was chatting with someone.

Sometimes it is as simple as saying “my ex-boyfriend”. Then wow you just came out to some woman in the grocery line who was talking about her Jewish Mother’s guilt trip. (come to find out the mother was a client of my ex)

This is why I meditate and teach meditation.

It allows you to let that chatter happen while you realize that you don’t have to follow it.

Till Next Time,

You are loved!

Jeff
